Unique Programs and Pathways

Music Programs

At Rockwood, students are encouraged to develop their creativity, confidence, and love of learning through a wide range of unique programs. Our music program, led by Mrs. Buelow-Fleck, provides all students from Kindergarten to Grade 8 with meaningful opportunities to explore musical expression. Her leadership fosters a lifelong appreciation of music and helps create a vibrant, arts-rich school culture.

Our music offerings include both a Primary Choir and a Junior Choir, who perform at school assemblies, Remembrance Day ceremonies, and holiday concerts. These choirs bring our community together and help mark important school moments with meaningful performances. Students in Grades 7 and 8 may also join the Rockwood Band, where they develop instrumental skills, learn teamwork, and share their talents at assemblies, concerts, and special events throughout the year.

Athletic Opportunities

Rockwood is also proud to offer a diverse range of athletic and intramural opportunities to help students stay active, build teamwork skills, and develop sportsmanship. Students are encouraged to participate in recess activities, intramurals, and school teams. Participation on Grade 7 and 8 competitive teams is based on tryouts and criteria established by the coach, and students are expected to properly care for team shirts and equipment.

Athletics at Rockwood include:

  • Cross Country: September–October

  • Soccer (Gr. 7/8): September–October

  • Volleyball: November–December

  • Basketball (Gr. 7/8): March–April

  • Badminton (Gr. 7/8): Begins after the December Break

  • Track and Field:

    • Grades 6–8: County-level competition in June, with practices in May/June

  • Three-Pitch Softball (Gr. 7/8): Tryouts and practices in May/June

EcoSchool and Outdoor Learning at Rockwood

Rockwood Public School is proud to be a certified EcoSchool, with a strong commitment to environmental stewardship, outdoor learning, and hands-on exploration. As a vibrant K–8 community of approximately 400 students, we are deeply connected to our natural surroundings—especially our protected wetland, affectionately known as “the swamp.” This unique area has long served as an outdoor learning space where students observe and document the birds, plants, and wildlife that thrive there. We are currently working to revitalize this cherished space. Our staff are passionate about bringing learning outdoors, particularly in our Kindergarten and Science programs. One of our teachers is a certified Forest School instructor who leads outdoor classroom experiences and mentors colleagues in developing their own outdoor teaching practices.
